History
Wardens Society of the Holy Cross was formed on 18th May 1980 with 37 members. Over the years the society has grown to greater heights.
Motto & Value
The society’s motto “Service Before Self” was officially endorsed with the printing of the members’ handbook (Version 1) on 23rd November 1986. It was later changed to “Service with Agape” in conjunction with the revision of the handbook in May 1999 (Version 1.95). The handbook was updated to Version 2.0 in 10 August 1999 and used for training.
“Service with Agape” is our motto. Agape is a Greek word pronounced as “Ah-Ga-Pay”. Agape is one of several Greek words to express “love”.The level of love Jesus wants to give to God, our neighbors and ourselves is Agape. It is the unconditional love we wish to extend to God, priests, fellow wardens, parishioners, and ourselves. The same love should be extended to people whose actions we dislike or disagree. The motto redefines the service we wish to provide as wardens of the Holy Cross Church. The service will be given with Agape, as Christ, our role-model has shown when He died on the cross in a supreme sacrifice to save us.
We would wish to apply Agape as the core value among our society members and share this love with every one we meet, for his glory through:
- Warm greeting of welcome and handshake
- Willingness to lend a helping hand
- Spontaneous smile and enthusiasm at all times
- Exuberance, pride and satisfaction in making this personal sacrifice
